November National Homeless Youth Awareness Month (HYAM) Social Media Toolkit

The TEA's National Homeless Youth Awareness Month (HYAM) Toolkit is a ready-to-use communications package designed to help school systems, campuses, community organizations, and local leaders raise awareness about students experiencing homelessness during November. The toolkit promotes the message "See. Support. Succeed." and highlights the educational rights and supports available under the McKinney-Vento Act. Available in English and Spanish!

The toolkit helps educators and communities:

  • Increase awareness about student homelessness in Texas.
  • Educate families and community members about McKinney-Vento rights and services.
  • Connect students and families to local support resources.
  • Promote school stability, enrollment access, and educational success.
  • Provide consistent messaging statewide while allowing local customization.

The toolkit emphasizes that:

  • Every student deserves the opportunity to attend school, learn, and succeed regardless of housing circumstances.
  • Students experiencing homelessness have rights under the McKinney-Vento Act, including immediate enrollment and school stability.
  • Communities play a critical role in recognizing and supporting students experiencing homelessness.
